Cat Syndromes - Things of the third age

Cat syndromes are common in older pussies, and different diseases and complications can appear in elderly cats as part of this. Prevention through observation and routine examinations of your pet is extremely important when cats reach “old age”, and constant visits - at least once every six months - to the veterinarian are essential to guarantee a full life and quality for your pussy.

Among the most common diseases involving cat syndromes cardiac, dental problems, renal failure, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, cancers, hyperthyroidism and inflammatory bowel diseases can be cited, and due to advanced age, it is not difficult that more than one (or several) of these complications manifest simultaneously in the pussy.

Urinary and obesity problems can also affect elderly cats, however, when the feline receives a properly balanced diet and takes all the vaccines indicated by the veterinarian, it is easier to both prevent and cure frequent diseases in old age.

Bearing in mind that the average life expectancy of a cat on the street is ten years old, it is not difficult to see the advantages that can be acquired for their health when the feline has a cozy home and a good treatment on the part of its owners, since, living in this way, the life expectancy of the pussies can reach up to 20 years.

Calcification in the vertebrae of the spine, herniated disc, pyometra and tumors can also appear more easily in the elderly cat, which is why constant visits to the veterinarian are so important for old pussies.

Through urine tests, feces, proteins, thyroxine (to detect possible hyperthyroidism), blood counts and leukemia tests, the professional can detect diseases or possible future complications, being able to medicate him and, consequently, prevent a good part of most frequent problems in feline seniors.
